Elizabeth A. Staton

Elizabeth Ann Staton, 86, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and went into the arms of Jesus Christ on Aug. 8, 2026. She was born Jan. 22, 1940, in Dardanelle, Arkansas, to Walter and Edna McKeown.

Elizabeth grew up in Dardanelle and graduated high school in 1958. A "professional student," she would spend the rest of her life learning. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in home economics from the University of Arkansas, she continued to pursue her education and received professional licenses and certificates in various subjects.

She was affectionately called "Mimi" by her family, which was her greatest treasure. She loved her First Baptist family and was quick to share her motto with family and friends, "JIL" or Jesus is Lord. She and Ed spent many years traveling the country in their RV and being participants in the Razorback Road Hog Club. She enjoyed her shopping trips to Walmart, where she enjoyed chatting with strangers, especially doting on babies.

Being a home economics major, she was a foodie ahead of her time when it came to healthy eating. You never knew what would be in your food. "How do you like those chicken nuggets?" she would say with a wink as she fed her grandkids tofu for the first time. She was truly full of joy and her sweet spirit will be missed.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James McKeown.

Survivors include her spouse of 40 beautiful years, Everett "Ed" Staton; two adoring daughters, Shannan Waddell (Larry) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Scarlett Pifer (Jason) of Harrison, Arkansas; brother, Frank McKeown (Kay) of Laurel, Mississippi; the absolute joys of her heart, her six grandchildren, Julian Willard, Canyon Willard, Stella Waddell, Sterling Waddell, Louis Waddell and Brodie Ormond, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home, with a celebration of life to begin at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dr. Jonathan Kelley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Hot Springs.
