Margaret Burks
Margaret "Maggie" Burks, a native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026.
Born on Aug. 2, 1943, Maggie devoted her life to her passions, her family, and her community. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Luke and Lucy Graves; her beloved son, Darren Edward Brown; her brothers, Donald Vanderburg, Phillip Bruce Graves, and Wayne Graves; and her brother-in-law, Richard Sorrells.
After completing high school, Maggie embarked on a career in accounting with Weyerhaeuser, furthering her education while employed there by attending NPC and UALR. After retirement from Weyerhaeuser, Maggie became a yoga instructor and opened the Hot Springs Yoga Center.
Beyond her career, Maggie was a long-time member of the Master Gardeners Association, and enjoyed hiking, exploring nature's beauty and extensive travel.
Maggie's life was enriched by family and friends whose love and support she treasured. She is survived by her devoted husband, Phil Burbutes; her sister, Julia Sorrells; her nieces, Andrea Wicker, Robbie Massanelli, Kim Morgan, and Julie Jones; as well as nephews, Jared Sorrells, Timm Graves, and Scott Graves; along with her extended circle of very close friends who will carry forward her memory.
Margaret "Maggie" Burks leaves behind a profound legacy of love, compassion, and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew her.
A visitation to honor Maggie's life will be held on June 8, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at the Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The community is invited to join in remembering a woman whose life touched so many through her kindness, strength, and unwavering spirit.
