Margaret G. Phillips
Margaret Godwin Phillips passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side.
She was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Hot Springs, to Elmer and Goldie Godwin and began her eternal life on Feb. 25, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lt. Col. (retired) Bill Godwin. She graduated Hot Springs High School in 1952, attended the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married Don Phillips in 1955, and they had two children, David and Dianne. A lifetime member of St. John's Catholic Church, she belonged to the Good Samaritan Circle. She retired from Oaklawn Jockey Club in 1988, and was an original member of the Hot Springs Duplicate Bridge Club. She was also a devoted volunteer at The Caring Place and part-time employee with Joy Gray during tax season.
She is survived by her two children, David (Patsy) Phillips of El Paso, Texas, and Dianne (Keith) Montgomery of Sherwood; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Murray, Dr. Jason (Anne) Phillips, Jeremy Humphreys; and five great-grandchildren. Also, nephew, Stewart Godwin, and niece, Meg Pelletier.
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. John's Catholic Church, with Father Shaun Wesley officiating, with visitation and luncheon to follow at the church. A private interment will follow at a later date.
She was at peace with herself, Jesus and with God.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Dowds, Keith Montgomery, B.J. and Josie Smith, Jean Daniel, Mary Jo Goldman, Bryan, Texas, and Monsignor Gaston Hebert, Albuquerque, N.M.
