Roy F. Lowrey

Age 87 Hot Springs
June 10, 2026

Roy Frederick Lowrey, 87, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. He was born on April 13, 1939, in Hot Springs, where he spent his entire life.

Roy was a brick mason by trade and a builder by nature. Gifted with his hands, he could build, repair or improve just about anything he set his mind to. He took pride in his work and even built his own homes, leaving a lasting mark not only on the structures he created, but also on the lives of those he loved.

Born into a large family, Roy cherished his brothers and sisters and made it a priority to spend time with them throughout his life. He was the last surviving member of his family of seven siblings, carrying with him a lifetime of memories and family stories.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jess and Selita Charlotte Lowrey and all of his siblings: Ethel Walters and her husband, Irvin; Martin Lowrey and his wife, Bonnie; Clem Lowrey and his wife, Joyce; Robert Lowrey and his wife, Mary Jane; Betty Meeks and her husband, Bennie; and Gloria Jennings and her husband, Zane. As the last surviving member of his generation, Roy carried with him a lifetime of family memories and stories that he treasured deeply.

To his family, Roy was simply "Papa." He was a man who showed love through action. If something needed fixing, he fixed it. If someone needed help, he showed up. His acts of service spoke louder than words ever could, and his family always knew they could depend on him.

When he wasn't working, Roy enjoyed hunting, watching classic westerns — especially those starring Audie Murphy — and reading novels by Louis L'Amour. He appreciated stories of hard work, resilience and character. Values that reflected the way he lived his own life.

Roy professed faith in Jesus Christ and found comfort in that faith throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughters, Darlene Lowrey and Debbie Lowrey; his grandchildren, Erin Dunn, Derek Lowrey and Julian Dark; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Connor Dunn, Bo Dunn, Derek Jr. Lowrey, Serenity Lowrey, Savannah Lowrey, Dedrick Lowrey, Daxton Lowrey, Beatrice Dark, Grenly Dark and Avery Dark; one great-great-grandchild, Araya Lowrey. Plus many nieces and nephews.

Though his hands are now at rest, the things he built, the lessons he taught and the love he showed through a lifetime of service will continue to live on through his family.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Arkansas Hospice and The Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care, kindness and dignity they provided during Roy's final days.

Papa will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever cherished by those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service celebrating Roy's life will be held at a later date. Service details will be announced by the family when arrangements are finalized.
