Shirley J. Wolff

EUREKA, S.D. — The memorial service for Shirley J. Wolff, 84, of Eureka, South Dakota, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at Salem Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Long Lake, South Dakota, with Pastor Tim Vander Vorst officiating. Burial will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Long Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Shirley died Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Eureka Healthcare Center, following a courageous battle with Parkinsons disease.

Shirley was born on Jan. 24, 1942, to Edwin and Theresa (Bertsch) Heupel. After graduation, Shirley was united in marriage to Gary T. Wolff of Long Lake, South Dakota, at the Eureka Baptist Church. Shortly after that, they moved to Rapid City, where they started their life together. In 1962, Gary started working for a mobile home mover, and it was then that Shirley would learn how to manage the business. Shortly thereafter, they bought a trailer home park. In 1975, they bought a second mobile home park. Now Shirley had her hands full not only managing the parks, but with working on the ground to extend the park to over a hundred mobile homes.

Shirley and Gary owned the Long Lake Café from 2007-2014. Here was where Shirley showed another talent for being a very good cook, learning yet another business and how to manage it. They sold the café in 2014 and farmed part time. Shirley was seen many times helping out in the fields.

Throughout Shirley's life, she enjoyed many activities outside the business. She was a terrific crafter. She especially liked working on puzzles, of which she had several framed and hanging in her room. She had done some beautiful things in her lifetime for herself and others. She also enjoyed knitting and made many knitted pieces for her nieces. She enjoyed making candy with her friends and family. The Christmas gatherings of the Heupel family were a time she always looked forward to.

Shirley and Gary enjoyed themselves taking vacations. They went to Alaska and spent one whole summer there. They also went to Florida where they watched a NASCAR race in person and visited with friends. Shirley loved dogs and cats, especially her cat Foxy.

Grateful for having shared Shirley's life are sisters: Sylvia (Don) Heinrich, Donna Heinrich and Patty (Rick) Trupe; many nieces and nephews; and special friends: Reid and Gwen Gray, Kevin and Tammy Heupel, Rod and Donna Hoffman, Larry Sullivan, and Hazel Vilhauer.

Preceding Shirley in death are her husband, Gary; parents, Edwin and Theresa Heupel; niece, Dawn Quenzer; brothers-in-law, Derrold Follmer and Lester Heinrich.
