Jane A. Gray
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Jane Adele Gray, 91, of Hot Springs Village, passed away July 28, 2026. She was born on July 2, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late George and Margaret Padberg.
Jane was a 1953 graduate of Notre Dame high school in St. Louis. She retired from the Department of Defense as an administrative assistant supporting U.S. Air Force majors and colonels. She and her husband, Carl "Chuck" Gray, were blessed with 59 years of marriage. During the last four years of his life, Jane was Chuck's steadfast caregiver and advocate as dementia stole him away.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village and NARFE. Jane enjoyed spending time with family, bowling and crafts such as Bauernmalerei and garbage art she mastered during Chuck's assignment to Germany in the 1970s. Jane was a devout Catholic who rarely missed weekly Mass. A 31-year resident of Hot Springs Village, Jane cherished her friends there, so many of whom helped her maintain her independence when age began to take its toll.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck; a sister, Mary Claire Gerau; and two brothers, Thomas Lorenz Padberg and Ferdinand Lambert Padberg. Survivors include daughters Lorri Elizabeth Wilkins (Clay) of Herndon, Virginia, and Patrice Annette "Patti" Svitak (George) of Tucson, Arizona; son Charles Timothy "Tim" Gray of New Caney, Texas; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
