June 25, 2026

CHICAGO, Illinois — Jane Scanlon passed away peacefully in Chicago on May 3, 2026. Born as Nellie Jane Foshee on Oct. 14, 1928, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Jane grew up in a time of economic insecurity. Responsible and resourceful at a young age, Jane's keen intelligence and strong determination served her well throughout her long lifetime.

Jane met her husband, Jack, when he was sent to the Army Navy Hospital, in Hot Springs, during WW2. They married and settled in Chicago after the war, where they raised their children.

Jane was hired as one of the first female commodity brokers at the Chicago Board of Trade in the 1970s and worked successfully for 17 years in a field long dominated by men. The Scanlon's maintained their ties to Hot Springs, where Jane was loved and revered by her extensive Arkansas family.

In 1983, the Scanlon's built their dream house in Hot Springs Village, and Jane managed a company regional office in Hot Springs until retirement.

Jane had a quick wit and hilarious sense of humor. Thoughtful and generous, she was a great source of practical advice.

She was also a devoted animal lover, Jane often rescued stray cats and loved Yorkshire Terriers. She enjoyed shopping, crafts and traveling.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her son, Michael; and son-in-law, Gene Litberg.

She leaves behind her daughter, Patricia; daughter-in-law, Janet Scanlon; grandchildren, Lisa, Abe, Cara, Kim and Michael; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Japhin, Soraya, Quinn and Sawyer; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass is planned for 11 am, Wednesday, July 1, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village; please arrive earlier to gather in the vestibule.

Interment will be private at Morning Star Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause near and dear to Jane's heart.
