Sylvia C. Disheroon

Hot Springs
April 30, 2026

"The passions of a force of nature never die; they merely change their form, flowing into the next generation."

Sylvia Campbell Disheroon of Hot Springs, Arkansas, aka Mother, Mama D, Sis, Coach, Ms. Dish, Hot Wheels, passed from this earth on April 27, 2026.

Sylvia was born on March 22, 1938, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Earl Edward and Jewell Hazel Miles Campbell. She spent her youth in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1956. While in high school, she was a cheerleader with many friends but none more special than Bucky Thomas who remained a lifelong friend. She then attended the University of Arkansas and Hendrix College before interrupting her studies to marry the love of her life Charles Buddy Disheroon. After a short break for family life, she returned to school at Ouachita Baptist University where she obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics and education.

Sylvia was a lifelong educator, beginning her career at Malvern Junior High School in 1969, where she taught math for one year before transferring to Hot Springs High School in 1970. She continued teaching algebra and general math until her retirement in 2000. Along the way she started the HSHS swim team where she was instrumental in promoting and developing high school competitive swimming throughout Arkansas. She retired from coaching in 1982, and spent the next 18 years focused on teaching Hot Springs kids not only how to "math," but also how to navigate life. After her high school teaching career, she found joy tutoring math and teaching English as a second language.

She and Buddy traveled frequently through the United States until 1994, when they purchased a motor home and really began to see the country. They spent summers and holidays traveling the roads of America from coast to coast frequently heading south to Baton Rouge and traveling west through the Rockies. Though she had an amazing life after Buddy's death, these were her most precious times. After Buddy's passing, she continued an active social life traveling and attending her weekly Thursday night dinners with close friends including Jean Ellen White who made sure she got where she needed to go.

She was a lifelong animal lover and had several special four-legged friends that she loved dearly. Just as with humans, it did not matter if they were hers, a foster or a friends pup she loved and spoiled them all. Sylvia spent the last six years living at the Atrium where she gained the nickname "Hot Wheels" for speeding through the halls in her motorized chair. She dearly loved the residents and staff, especially Howard Barnett. Howard was a great friend to her and kept her looking fabulous until the end.

She will be remembered by anyone who crossed paths with her as an energetic conversationalist with an infectious smile never meeting a stranger.

Sylvia was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles "Buddy" Disheroon and her beloved brother, Guy Earl Campbell. She is survived by her son, Copeland Disheroon (Kristi McNeal), Grandson, Dylan Disheroon, Granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Disheroon (Tyler Williams), Great granddaughter, Lula Rain Williams, Sisters in law, Donna Gaye Webster (Bill Webster), Mary Ann Campbell (Guy Campbell) and nieces and nephews; Melissa Webster McMillian (Scott), Keyea Webster, Greg Campbell (Cheryl Campbell), John Campbell (Jennifer Ziegenhorn) as well as numerous cousins.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff of the Atrium, CHI St. Vincent (special shout out to Debbie Carnathan), National Park Medical Center and Gentiva Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter or food bank.

The celebration of a life well lived will be held from 1-3 p.m. at The Atrium on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Though her voice is silent, her lessons echo forever.

We love you Mama D.
